Fire doors

Fire resisting doors are a vital passive fire protection measure and will be found in almost all buildings to protect escape routes and areas of higher risk. They are subject to damage due to general wear and tear or misuse and should undergo a regular inspection to ensure they continue to function as they should.
The responsible person should carry out monthly fire door and escape route checks, ensuring the door closes fully in to its frame, ensuring all fire safety components are intact (fire and smoke seals) and that there is no visible damage. All tests should be recorded and any deficiencies rectified.
The responsible person should ensure that a suitable and sufficient fire risk assessment has been carried out which will involve an overview of all existing doors. However this will not extensively cover all fire doors and frames, therefore a comprehensive fire door inspection survey should be carried out.

A comprehensive fire door inspection survey will include an inspection of:

A check for any relevant markings (which suggest the fire rating/ standard etc)
An assessment of the door thickness and any gaps around the frame
Fire-resisting qualities of the hinges and door hardware and the condition and fitting of this.
A review of any signage on the doors.
A test of any fire door retaining/ holding or closing devices.
An inspection of any vision panels or glazing.
An inspection of fire and smoke seals and their suitability.
A clear action plan which outlines the locations of any defects along with photos and suggested remedial actions.
We will provide a quotation for remedial works if this is something we can help you with, or if not, we can point you in the right direction.
