Portable Fire Extinguisher Servicing Bath
At Radcliffe Fire Protection we service all makes of fire extinguishers to BS 5306, our engineers are approved to inspect and maintain portable fire fighting equipment. Extinguishers that are not maintained annually to the British Standard are not considered compliant under the British Standard.
An extended service otherwise known as a discharge test is to be carried out at stipulated intervals, for water / Foam / Dry powder or wet chemical this is every 5 years and every 10 years for a carbon dioxide (CO2). If the extinguisher is a powder or CO2, we will offer you a service exchange unit which is more economical, it is not practical in the case of a powder extinguisher emptying and refilling on site, or returning a carbon dioxide (CO2) extinguisher to the manufacturers for a hydraulic test and refill.
Our service department at Radcliffe Fire Protection will remind you when your annual service is due and make the necessary arrangements for an engineer to visit. All our products are British Kite marked and manufactured to BS 5306 and BS EN3.
As part of your monthly fire safety audits, you should be checking your extinguishers and recording the results in a log book:
Is it located in the correct place with its identification sign (not hidden by this weeks rubbish or propping the door open?)
Are all tamper seals intact?
Is the safety pin intact?
Is the pressure gauge in the green and not damaged or showing ‘recharge?’
Are the handle and discharge nozzle in good shape, no cracks and not clogged?
Are the labels and instructions clear to read?
Has the annual service been carried out this year?
You should contact your fire extinguisher service engineer if any deficiencies are found during your checks.
